Encroachments on Municipal Property

Posted on Thursday October 01, 2020 at 12:02PM

As noted in the annual newsletter, encroachments are not allowed onto Summer Village parcels, except if you have entered into an encroachment agreement.
The following are examples of what is NOT permitted without an agreement:
Storage of any woodpiles, equipment, or debris.
No permanent buildings or structures, no fire pits.
Do not landscape, nor mow the lawn area.
It is meant to go into a natural state.

To that end, Summer Village of Silver Beach municipal council has passed a motion for administration to conduct a review to determine whether there are any existing encroachments, and to follow up on any unauthorized encroachments.

In the coming weeks, that review will be underway.
The Municipal Government Act, the Summer Village Land Use Bylaw, and Policy #2016-023 have provisions to enforce the lot boundaries and ensure each resident is treated fairly.

If you have any questions or concerns about this review, or if you are unsure about your compliance, please contact our office as soon as possible.
